WHAT IS DRY JULY?
Dry July is a fundraising campaign that challenges Aussies across the country to go alcohol-free for a month. The campaign’s main objective is to raise funds to support people affected by cancer.
All the funds raised through Dry July go towards cancer support organisations across Australia. The fundraising efforts of Dry July participants go to wellness programs, transport services, accommodation projects, and hospital furnishings among many others. Funding these support services and programs help improve patient comfort, care and wellbeing.
According to their website, “Since 2008, Dry July has inspired more than 130,000 Aussies to go dry, raising $30 million for people affected by cancer, and funding projects at more than 75 cancer organisations across Australia”.
HOW TO TAKE PART IN DRY JULY
To take part in this life-changing fundraiser, all you have to do is visit the Dry July website and sign up to the challenge. Then, go alcohol-free this July. Ask friends and family to sponsor you. Make sure to show you’re committed and don’t be shy! Spread the word about Dry July at family events, brunch dates, at work. Share pictures on social media and tag as many people as you can! The more you share, the more support you’ll receive. Let everyone know they’re helping you get through the challenge and that they’re donating to a great cause.
All the money you raise will then go towards an Australian cancer support organisation of your choosing. Dry July has partnered with more than 45 organisations this year. Completing the challenge will also give you a sense of achievement. Plus, not buying alcohol on the regular means you’re saving money. So, you’re not only helping others, you’re also helping yourself!
DRY JULY SMOOTHIE RECIPES
Here are two delicious smoothie recipes to help you get through Dry July:
- ½ cup H2coco Cocochoc
- ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 25 grams of good quality dark chocolate
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 dash of salt
- Bring ⅓ cup of water to a simmer in a saucepan in medium heat. Whisk in 1 tbsp of cocoa powder. Then, add Cocochoc, almond milk, and vanilla extract. Bring to a simmer.
- Whisk in chocolate, brown sugar, and a dash of salt. Cook the mixture, whisking frequently, until smooth and creamy.
- When the chocolate has completely melted, turn off heat. Transfer your hot Cocochoc into your favourite mug. Enjoy!
- 1 cup H2coco Supergreens Coconut Water
- ½ cup fresh strawberries
- ⅓ cup fresh blueberries
- 2 cups loosely packed fresh spinach
- 1 medium banana (frozen)
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 handful of ice cubes
- 2 tsp honey to taste (organic preferred)
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Add more or less honey depending on your preferred sweetness. Enjoy your superfoods smoothie!
